Citizens Advice Bureau Volunteers
Could you give up some of your time to help your community?
Volunteers are the backbone of Worcester CAB’s service to the public, and you could be a part of that service. Volunteers in the bureau give their time as advisers, social policy campaigners, receptionists, admin and IT support workers.
Advisers in the bureau deal with the wide range of enquiries we receive, answering questions about problems with welfare benefits, debts, housing, employment, family breakdown and much more. It is a difficult, but rewarding role. Volunteer advisers give the bureau around 10 hours a week, and receive full training for their work with bureau clients.
Receptionists are the first point of contact for clients in the bureau. They need to be friendly, welcoming and calm under pressure. Volunteer receptionists give the bureau around 3 hours per week.
Social Policy work is an exciting area in the bureau. Volunteers tend to work more flexibly in this area, and the role can involve looking at the the sorts of enquiries the bureau receives in order to identify problems which are affecting large groups of people. The role also involves campaigning, contacting the media and politicians and encouraging bureau clients to speak up about the issues that affect them. For more information about social policy work in the bureau, take a look at the Campaigns section of the website.
Admin and IT have become big issues in the bureau over the last few years. The amount of work we do generates a big need for admin support and puts an immense strain on the IT systems in the bureau. We are always happy to talk to enthusiastic and skilled people who might be able to offer some time to support the bureau in these areas.
